I mentioned the passage growth that every boat seems to get following a month at sea. It’s easy to tell new arrivals like us.

The constant water flow ensures that the growth creeps all the way up onto your topsides.

View fullsize Reach dropped anchor this morning in Nuku Hiva, Marquesas.

Arriving at dawn, the birds were all going out to sea (making for great birding!) and the sunlight on the hills was amazing. What a stunning landfall! ⛰️

We stopped ashore for an easy chec

The pattern seems to be that the wind eases when longitudes approach the Marquesas, as we heard about from other boats ahead of us.

The winds are still steady, but have moderated from 18-20+ kts to around 10-12 kts. They are still behind us so apparent wind is 5-6 kts. We are sailing at 5 kts making this wing-on-wing sail conf
View fullsize We have a most bizarre wind shift this afternoon from the SE to NNE due to a huge weather system north of us.

We’d been watching it on satellite (we are white dot), and fortunately, have stayed south of the majority of it other than a few loc

1. All cabinets and drawers have latches or locks for a reason ~ it’s time to put them into use to keep your silverware and other things from flying
View fullsize Fresh food supplies are lasting well at Day 19 ~ plenty of fresh fruit (oranges, pears, plums, tomatoes) & eggs, keeping well for the longhaul, out on the counter.

Pineapple, strawberries, avocado and bananas lasted for the first week to 10 day

View fullsize Today is Day 16.

We have more or less reached the 1/2 way point to the Marquesas. It's a good milestone!! Approx 1930 nm to go.

We are in good company out here ~ have even passed within AIS range of a fellow cruisers along the way. This is the high

View fullsize The last few days spent in the doldrums had us either motorsailing or sailing very sloooowly. To conserve fuel, we hit a new dignity-level, using an engine when our boat speed dipped below 2 kts. 😅

There were scattered squalls during this time tha

A minor raw water pump leak while running an engine in the doldrums prompted Mark to replace the seals with the spare rebuild kit.
