View fullsize Mark found this crown of thorns sea star at our favorite bommie. It was HUGE ~ much bigger than expected at around 2 feet.

Also... terrifying!

These are venomous to humans and, unfortunately, as reef eaters do a lot of damage to coral reefs.

View fullsize Of course we hit the water on that glass calm day to visit our favorite bommie!

Plus, I finally broke out the fisheye wide-angle lens ~ here's Mark from above & below the water.

More to come ~ there is actually so much fish & reef life on
View fullsize A rare, glass calm day at anchor & a far cry from the rolly anchorages of earlier this year... we don't even have to lock the drawers anymore 😆

It's nice to share an anchorage with s/v Mira @on_a_new_tack again after they caught up to us from P

View fullsize It got calm yesterday and our anchor ended up behind us for a bit... usually no big deal.

Then everything - chain, bridle and floats - got all twisted up once the wind filled back in and Mark spent almost an hour unwinding everything from the bow w

It is thought that the horn is used for courtship displays.

View fullsize Sunset is super early (~5:10pm) right now in our time zone. The days seem short and the sun arcs noticably low across the sky.

We are approaching the shortest day of the year, where in the southern hemisphere it'll be winter. Even our solar power

View fullsize We woke to a perfectly calm morning to find our chain floating contently under the bow. 😆

Water clarity was good enough to even see the bommies and our anchor on the bottom at 35 feet.

View fullsize The reefs are quite healthy here ~ especially hard corals ~ and tons of fish.

These photos were taken with my macro lens, which is NOT the best set-up for far away shots, but it gives you a sense of the reef life. 🐠🦈🐙🐟🦐

View fullsize Okay ~ finally set up the underwater camera & jumped in today for my first time underwater this year...

Anchored the dinghy next to a large coral field, dropped in on the first coral head, and didn't move from it for 90 minutes! 😂

View fullsize The first item for business upon arrival to the Tuamotus was to collect several pearl floats that have washed up on the beaches.

Anchoring in the atolls requires floating your anchor chain to avoid wrapping it up on the many rocks and coral dotted
